First aid at Work (FAW)

What FIRST AIDERS’ do you need for your company?

 

In October 2009 the H.S.E. Changed the First Aid at Work Regulations somewhat by reducing the 4-day statutory course to three days and introducing a 1-day statutory course for low/ medium risk work places.

 

The law requires the employer to assess the risks based on:

· The number of employees

· The type of work involved

· Previous accidents

· How spread out the work force is

· Plus anything else you seem appropriate

 

Minimal risk

If you decide, for example you only have a couple of people working in an office and a first aider is not required, the law requires you to APPOINT somebody to take charge in the event of an emergency.

 

This Appointed Person would normally look after the accident book and first aid kit.  Whilst the law doesn’t require this person to be trained in first aid, it is recommended that they attend a 4 or 6 hour course.  Our 1-day course is suitable for this purpose.

 

Medium/low risk

For medium to low risk work places the H.S.E. have introduced a 1-day First Aid at Work course.  This course was introduced last October to save employers of medium/ low risk work places paying for a 3-day course. We run these courses on-site at your company at a time that suits you.

 

High/ Medium risk

For high risk work places the first aider needs to complete a 3-day First Aid at Work course.  We run these courses on-site at your company at a time that suits you.
